The U.S. health care system is changing and growing at a rapid pace, so if you’re ready to start an exciting career in an industry with many opportunities for advancement, our health services programs can help.
Helms College offers three programs in our School of Health Services:
- Multi-Skilled Medical Assistant: This program is a specialized educational program that focuses on a variety of clinical procedures as well as administrative duties. Students in the Multi-Skilled Medical Assistant program at Helms College receive the training needed to complete vital administrative and clinical tasks in the offices of physicians, hospitals, and other health-care facilities. Upon completion of the program, students will have entry-level skills to serve as medical assistants. They can also gain specialized certification for positions in a variety of healthcare facilities.
- Medical Administrative Assistant: This program provides learning opportunities that introduce and reinforce academic and occupational knowledge, skills, and professional development to best prepare students for a career. With a focus on medical coding and billing, the Medical Administrative Assistant program paves the way for students to obtain certification and further secure career opportunities.
- Patient Care Technician: This program builds upon basic nurse aid skills and trains students to perform nursing assistant duties, obtain vital signs, collect and prepare specimens, and perform EKGs, phlebotomy, and other laboratory procedures.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics*, “The healthcare and social assistance industry is projected to create about 28 percent of all new jobs created in the U.S. economy by 2020. This industry—which includes public and private hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities, and individual and family services—is expected to grow by 33 percent, or 5.7 million new jobs.”
